Based in Inverness, I offer specialist easel painting conservation and restoration services across the Scottish Highlands.
I am a professional painting conservator working in the private sector. I diagnose, advise and offer expert care and treatment for easel paintings but also painted objects and architectural painting such as ceilings, wall murals and decorative panels.
From gentle surface cleaning to complex treatments such as lining and consolidation of flaking paint, each piece is unique and requires a bespoke solution. I carry out a series of tests to identify the most suitable techniques—always with the aim of preserving your artwork and its longevity.
Conservation
Stabilising an artwork’s condition to prevent further deterioration and preserve its original message and materials. The aim is to halt ongoing degradation without altering the artwork's historic character.
Restoration
Repairing and reintegrating damaged or deteriorated areas of a painting to restore its visual coherence and legibility. Restoration focuses on aesthetic presentation, while respecting original materials, artist’s intent and historical context.
Artwork Range
I can restore a wide range of artworks across various supports, including canvas, wood panel, board, metal and plaster. Original techniques can be oil painting, tempera, acrylic or other medias.
My expertise covers antique, modern, and contemporary paintings, with most artworks dating from the 18th to 20th centuries.
I also advise on and carry out minor restoration for frames and painted sculptures. For treatments that require more specialised care, I am happy to refer you to expert frame or sculpture conservators in our trusted network.
Quotes & Estimates
A detailed examination of the artwork is usually required to provide a full treatment estimate. However, with a description and clear photos, I can often offer a preliminary idea of the cost.
Estimates are typically free. All costs are discussed and agreed in advance.
Collection Service
A free collection service within 15 miles of Inverness is offered. After a series of tests in my workshop, I will provide a detailed estimate of time and cost tailored to your painting’s needs.
